From Finals to Fun: A 4-Day Buena Park Escape

School’s out, the tassel has turned, and your graduation getaway officially begins in Buena Park—right in the heart of Southern California. You’re surrounded by it all: theme parks, interactive dining, immersive experiences, award-winning food, and even free local spots to explore. Plus, you’re just five miles from Disneyland, 15 miles from the beach, and 20 miles from Los Angeles.

Day 1: Arrival + Theme Park Takeover
Kick things off at Knott's Berry Farm, California’s first theme park and a must for any SoCal trip. Start with GhostRider—the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden coaster on the West Coast—and consider a Fast Lane pass to skip the lines. In summer, Knott’s Summer Nights brings live music, games, and photo ops throughout the park, all included with admission. For something different, try gold panning and keep what you find as a souvenir—hey, every flake helps with that post-grad tuition bill, right? And don’t miss the exclusive boysenberry treats, found in everything from Dippin’ Dots to funnel cake and cream soda.

Day 2: Water Park + Dinner Show Night
After a full day of rides, it’s time to cool off across the street at Knott's Soak City. With more than 23 slides—including speed, tube, and body slides—plus raft rides perfect for groups. When you’re ready to slow things down, float along the 1,700-foot lazy river and let yourself fully unplug from school stress. If you want a more relaxed setup, cabanas are available to rent for a shaded hangout spot between rides. In the evening, trade swimsuits for something more theatrical, because in Buena Park, dinner comes with a show, with three dinner show options to choose from.

Day 3: Explore, Play + Capture the Memories
Start your day at The Source OC, a three-level hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment.. For something outdoors, Ralph B. Clark Regional Park gives you 104 acres of trails, recreational activities, and picnic areas. Take a short drive to John's Incredible Pizza for an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, arcade games, ticket-to-win games, and even bowling (and yes, the peanut butter pizza is a must-try).

Day 4: The Ultimate Food Crawl
Celebrate graduation with a full day of great eats. Check out the Taste of Buena Park food award winners for top picks across the city.

Hotels That Elevate the Graduation Experience
The hotel is a key part of the graduation trip, with over a dozen options offering comfort, convenience, and amenities that make it easy to relax between adventures. Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn have you covered with spacious suites and free hot breakfast. For more affordable options, consider Good Nite Inn, Buena Park Hotel & Suites, and Days Inn.
