An Adventure-Packed Weekend in Buena Park

Nailing a family vacation is no easy feat, so we rounded up our tried-and-true spots in Buena Park, CA. From a world-class amusement park to under-the-radar cafes, here’s where to stay, where to eat, what to do, and what to drink on your next trip.

Where to Stay

Chances are, if you’re going to Buena Park you’ll be spending the day at Knott’s Berry Farm, so what better place to stay than at the resort’s namesake hotel? The kid-friendly hotel offers 320 rooms, featuring a SNOOPY-themed wing, fitness center, pool with children’s activity area, and even a children’s bedtime tuck-in service with Snoopy himself. We recommend booking one of the resort’s many family vacation packages, which includes admission to Knott’s Berry Farm. Not staying at Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel? No sweat. There are plenty of affordable options within walking distance of the park.

Where to Eat

Located just a short walk from Knott’s, Porto’s Bakery is our go-to for a crowd-pleasing breakfast. This family-friendly café specializes in desserts and pastries that are (almost) too pretty to eat, so make it a point to stop by for a treat after the park, too.

Located inside an unassuming strip mall, you wouldn’t expect to find a gourmet coffee shop, but that’s exactly where we stumbled upon Stereoscope. The first thing visitors will notice is the large (and busy) communal table. And, as a micro-roaster with the only U.S. location in Buena Park, Stereoscope beans change based on what’s available that season so you can try something new every time you stop by.

Don’t let the fact that it’s in a mall scare you away, this hidden gem is worth a visit. Most people come to Basilur Tea & Coffee for their lineup of teas and coffees but stay for their impressive pastries and breakfast menu. Tip: Order the soufflé pancakes and thank us later.

It’s easy to miss to this specialty ice cream spot, located behind a car wash on Beach Blvd., but this soft serve drizzled with honey is worth the parking lot maze. Honeymee uses only fresh, California milk in its family-owned, kosher-certified dairy factory and honey and honeycombs sourced from family-owned farms.

What to Do

Explore 160 acres of world-class rides, shows, and attractions with the entire family in Knott's Berry Farm's four themed areas: Ghost Town, Fiesta Village, The Boardwalk, and Camp Snoopy. With over 40 rides, there’s something for every kind of adventure seeker: adrenaline junkies can get their fill on the many rollercoasters, while littles can enjoy kid-friendly rides and a meet-and-greet with Snoopy and the PEANUTS gang. And, because it’s sunny year-round in Southern California, be sure to hit up the park’s Soak City.

If you’ve never experienced the joy of a dinner show, you’re in for a treat. If you’re bringing the kiddos along, head to the classic Medieval Times where guests can expect an elaborate 4-course meal, daring swordplay, epic battles, and more. And, for the first time in its 35-year tradition, a female has taken the throne. If you’re looking for more edgy entertainment, head to Teatro Martini for an upscale cabaret and 5-course meal.

Not many people know this, but Buena Park dates back to 1783, when California belonged to Spain. Travel back in time by touring the city’s Historic District, featuring several persevered buildings from the 1800s. Tours are open to the public, but we recommend calling ahead to book a reservation.

Where to Drink

Conveniently located across the street from Knott’s, The Cauldron is the perfect spot for the adults to unwind. While the décor is playful (think: witch-themed vibes and hidden entryways), the cocktails are no joke––using only quality ingredients and spirits.

After a long day of excitement, choose from over a dozen comfortable & affordable Buena Park hotels -- most are located within walking distance to all major attractions. CLICK HERE for hotel deals. To start planning your SoCal vacation, order your FREE Travel Guide HERE.
