By Rail:
Buena Park is linked to several Orange County cities and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via Metrolink, a network of commuter rail service. The Metrolink train system serves a 6-county area in Southern California and interfaces with Amtrak. As a result, it is possible for visitors to Buena Park to arrive by train.
Union Station in downtown Los Angeles is a key hub for Metrolink, Amtrak, light rail lines serving parts of Los Angeles County, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority bus system. From Oxnard in Ventura County to Oceanside in San Diego County, Metrolink trains stop at all Amtrak stations. It is important to note that Amtrak trains do not stop at all Metrolink stations. Orange County cities served by Metrolink include Buena Park, Fullerton, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine, and San Juan Capistrano. Upon arrival at the Metrolink station in Buena Park, visitors can take the Orange County Transportation Authority #29 bus south to Beach Boulevard. (Note: Find out what time the last bus leaves the Metrolink station to come south on different days of the week). By Car:
Buena Park enjoys an excellent location, at the intersection of the I-5 and 91 Freeways. From either freeway, exit at Beach Boulevard and head south toward Knott’s Berry Farm, and you are minutes away from great entertainment, your comfy hotel, or an enjoyable meal in one of our many restaurants.

Public Transportation
While Southern California is generally not known for having efficient public transportation, die-hards will find it possible to move around using Metrolink trains, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) buses and Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Los Angeles County (MTA) light rail and buses. From Buena Park, OCTA Bus #29 takes visitors from the Buena Park Metrolink station to the attractions on Beach Boulevard, then to Knott’s Berry Farm, and all the way to Huntington Beach in a bit over an hour. Mickey Mouse fans can take public buses and go directly to Disneyland from Knott’s Berry Farm via MTA #460. Trip time is approximately 20 minutes and the frequency is approximately every half hour, depending on the time of day. In addition, MTA #460 stops at Norwalk Station, the connecting point to the MTA Green Line (light rail). From there riders can take the Green Line to join the Blue Line and head south to Long Beach and the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, and picturesque Belmont Shore by connecting to Long Beach Transit service in Downtown Long Beach. Taking the Blue Line north will lead to downtown Los Angeles, and from there a connection to the Red Line will transport stargazers to Hollywood and Universal Studios Hollywood. Downtown Los Angeles serves as the hub for MTA buses to Beverly Hills and other points of interest in Los Angeles, and Union Station is the primary hub for Amtrak and Metrolink trains.

My Metrolink Journey to Buena Park
By: Lesley M.- Oxnard, CA
As I step off the Metrolink, I am anxious to find my way over to Knott’s Berry Farm. Unaware of exactly where to go, I wander around the station, with crossed fingers, reading signs and looking for directions on what to do next. Luckily for me, I find a friendly OCTA bus driver (Orange County Transportation Authority) walking around assisting riders near the station. When he gets to me and kindly asks if he could be of assistance, I answer “Yes!” with a sigh of relief. I tell him I’m on my way to Knott’s Berry Farm and he points down the sidewalk to his bus and says, “Bus 29 will take you right to the park. We’ll leave in 18 minutes.”
Conveniently near the Metrolink station (literally down the walkway) sit two OCTA stops: bus 25 and bus 29. The driver explains to me that bus 25 comes from the Fullerton Park-N-Ride, and although it will go in the direction of Knott’s, you would have to get off at La Palma Avenue and walk a few blocks South to get there. Personally, I wanted to go with bus 29 leaving me with a slim-to-none chance of getting lost.
I take a look at the small route map that is displayed by the bus stop to see what stops bus 29 makes. I easily find a Knott’s Berry Farm icon on the map and was happy to see that it is a scheduled stop. I look further down and see the scheduled times of departure. Along with the other times, 10:18am is clearly stated and it was just about hitting that time on my clock. Vincent, the driver, opens his bus doors and I load in dropping in $1.25 for my one-way ride. “Just $3 for an all-day pass if you plan to head to the beach later,” he says to me, but I know I’ll have to save that adventure for another day.
I begin my ride and stare out the window trying to get a feel for where I was. As we hit Beach Boulevard, I was amazed to see that all the Buena Park attractions were somewhat dispersed down this main road, easily within walking distance from one another. To my left I spotted Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, and neighboring Pirates sat the monumental castle of Medieval Times, and just past Medieval I spotted the Ripley’s “Believe It or Not!” Museum waiting for me to be in awe of their collection.
As we approach the towering roller coasters of Knott’s Berry Farm, the bus slows down, and sure enough we stop right in front of the park. I get up, thank Vincent for a lovely ride, and get off the bus appreciating how simple, easy, and cheap this journey has been. |
